Is this a sign of things to come? I am thinking yes! But for now it is so sweet. She was talking to Nonna, my mom, telling her all about our upcoming trip in October to Disney World, she is so excited.
They can't get enough of Daddy when he is home and he seems to have a knack for getting Bella to fall asleep with him. She was so tired she didn't even make it to the end of The Little Mermaid.

Our Camping trip in Seward with the Hulet family. It was our second camping trip this summer and we had a great time. The kids did surprisingly well, with the exception of getting them to fall asleep at night...blame the daylight and new surroundings. I will say, it is challenging going camping with 2 small children, especially Carson's age, but we just can't pass up these experiences while we are here in this beautiful state for such a short time. All in all, I would say it was definately worth it. Bella especially had a really good time and it made it even more fun being with the Hulet family. Bella and Eli get along really well and played hard the whole time. We were all worn out by the end. We stayed two nights, which with kids is pretty much perfect, any longer and Josh and I may lose our sanity :)
Our second day there we drove into Seward and hiked to Exit Glacier. I would definately recommend this to anyone who hasn't done it yet. It is a pretty easy hike so it is perfect for kids and it is so beautiful. It is really amazing getting to see the glacier so close.
Eli and Bella got a kick out of running together way a head of us, testing the limits to see how far they could get before we made them stop to wait for us slow adults.

They had these date signs to show where the glacier came to at a certain year. It is really amazing how much it has receded over the past 100 or so years. The entire hike used to be a giant glacier. Blame global warming :) The kids just thought is was cool to run up to each sign and point to the numbers.

That patch of pink is the fireweed growing on the mountain side. For those of you who don't know fireweed is a beautiful pink flower that grows wild everywhere here in the summer. You can find fireweed honey, jelly even ice cream all over.

On the hike you come to a big rock field with run off water from the glacier and snow melt. They are pretty fast moving streams going all through here.
Bella got a kick out of throwing rocks into the water.

Josh made our families rock tower. One for each of us. Right behind us you can see the glacier.
Continuing on the the glacier. Bella was such a trooper. You could hear her breathing hard as it got steeper, but she didn't complain once, in fact she stayed a head of us the whole time, tromping on up the path.

There is the glacier up close. You can't actually touch it, it is too unstable, but you can get really close. It is amzing to think how old that big piece of ice is. You could feel this ice cold wind coming off of it when you got in front of it. We were all freezing once we got there. If you listen sometimes you can even hear it as it moves ever so slowly.

This is actually from our first camping trip to Eklutna Lake. We only stayed one night so it wasn't much of a camping trip, but for our first time out with two kids it gave us an idea on how things would go. Carson just loved digging in the dirt and putting sticks in his mouth.

The next morning. Don't you just love that scowl on Bella's face comlimented nicely by Carson's huge grin. You can tell who woke up happy and who didn't!
So the day after our first camping trip, in which Josh got eaten alive by mosquitoes, he headed out on a king salmon fishing charter with some friends of ours from pilot training, the Christiansen's. The whole day Josh said he just didn't feel right. Kind of weak and achey and cold, almost flu-like symptoms. He fell asleep on the way home and when they showed up, bam....he was covered, head to toe, with hives. Big welty ones and his whole face was all swollen, ears, lips, everything. If I didn't feel so sorry for him, you almost have to laugh. The poor guy looked so miserable. He thought it was from the swollen mosquitoe bites he had, but that was a little over a month ago and he isn't this bad anymore, but every morning Josh is still covered with hives on various parts of his body. It clears up a lot during the day, the he wakes up all itchy again the next morning. The doctors on base are a little stumped by this. He saw an allergist and the only thing he tested postive for out of some common Alaskan allergens was cats. You can imagine Josh's joy in this if any of you know the battle we have had over my cats. They aren't convinced for sure that the cats are what's causing his hives, but we are pretty sure it is something in our home. He still breaks out when gone on trips, but is much worse the first few days back at home. We will keep you posted on this confusing situation as it progresses.
